THE family of a champion Sydney swimmer killed in a Canadian avalanche said the 21-year-old had been living his dream.Leigh Barnier's body was found at the Big White Ski Resort in British Columbia, in Canada's west, about 10am (AEDT) today.
He had been missing since the avalanche in the Parachute Bowl at 6am yesterday, or about 11am Sunday local time. Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Mr Barnier,
who worked for a private company at the resort, left his friends about half an hour before the avalanche, telling them he was going to do "one more run''.
Police initially believed six people were caught up in the avalanche but later accounted for everyone except Mr Barnier. A major search was launched to find him. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade today confirmed Mr Barnier had been found dead. His uncle, John Campbell, said the tight-knit family was devastated by his death.
